Possible THP stalls and high swapping on Multi-NUMA Systems (SAP HANA on RHEL)

Issue

  • Potential hangs and performance issues observed when THP (Transparent Huge Pages) is enabled in the on multi-NUMA node/systems (SAP HANA on RHEL).
  • Some instances of application abnormalities on RHEL9 observed due to server lag and hangs caused by insufficient memory.
  • In multi-numa node system, some nodes shows memory imbalance, and close to full memory usage.
  • Excessive swapping observed in a multi-numa environment.
  • Why SWAP was used up and pgscand/s spiked as found in sar log?
