OpenShift NetApp CSI (Trident) using iSCSI loss of Multipath paths during ONTAP Upgrade

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

During a NetApp ONTAP rolling upgrade or a takeover/giveback event while running OpenShift, can result in multipath paths not recovering during the giveback. The next NetApp controller to upgrade can result in no viable paths to the storage LUNs.

Environment

  • Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform (OCP v4.12 - v4.15 and later)
  • NetApp Storage Arrays
  • Trident driver versions 23.x to 24.10
  • device-mapper-multipath
NOTE: This will only occur if the NetApp (Trident) self-healing is enabled
