RHEL8: System drops into Emergency target at boot after printing error message "Failed to start Load Kernel Modules"

Solution Verified - Updated -

  • While booting the system installed with RHEL8 or later, the system enters emergency.target unit after printing the following messages on the console

[FAILED] Failed to start Load Kernel Modules.
See 'systemctl status systemd-modules-load.service' for details.
    [FAILED] Failed to mount /boot/efi.
See 'systemctl status boot-efi.mount' for details.
[DEPEND] Dependency failed for Local File Systems.
  • Booting an older kernel works fine

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 (RHEL8) and later
