  • The uuencode and uudecode command comes with sharutils package.
  • On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, install this package by using up2date command.
# up2date sharutils
  • On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, & Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 install this package by using yum command.
# yum install sharutils
  • For Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, "sharutils" package is available through RHEL Server Optional channel.
  • For Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, "sharutils" package is available through Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 Server - Optional channel.
  • For Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8, "sharutils" package is available through CodeReady Linux Builder repository.

On RHEL6 "yum install sharutils" returns "No package sharutils available". I need uuencode on this server or an equivelant utility.

  • In Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, "sharutils" package is available through "RHEL Server Optional" channel.

The sharutils package is not found in RHEL8 though the CodeReady repo is installed:

[root@degreeworksapp4 sysctl.d]# yum install sharutils
