The mlocate package on RHEL8 installs a systemd timer in place of scheduling updatedb via cron

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Issue

  • The mlocate version published in RHEL8 does not create the /etc/cron.daily/mlocate to automatically run the updatedb daily

  • A systemd.timer named mlocate-updatedb.timer has replaced the cron

  • In RHEL 8, mlocate-updatedb.timer is disabled by default
