hdparm -I fails with HDIO_DRIVE_CMD(identify) failed: Input/output error

Issue

  • Attempting to use hdparm-9.16 (stock RHEL version) to dump detailed information about a SSD and it fails.
 hdparm -I /dev/sdc

/dev/sdc:
 HDIO_DRIVE_CMD(identify) failed: Input/output error
  • This was fixed in hdparm-9.37.
  • The latest hdparm from FC18 works as expected.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • hdparm-9.16
