Can I configure the maximum allowed downtime during live migrations for each VM in RHEV?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • Currently the maximum allowed downtime during live migrations is a global setting configured in /etc/vdsm/vdsm.conf in each RHEV host and applies equally to all VMs:
# Maxmium allowed downtime for live migration in milliseconds
# (anything below 100ms is ignored) if you do not care about liveness
# of migration, set to a very high value, such as 600000.
# migration_downtime = 500
  • Some VMs run intensive memory and/or I/O workloads which cause live migration to fail to converge with above default setting for migration_downtime.

  • Some very critical VMs have demanding SLAs and increasing migration_downtime globally for all VMs is not feasible.

  • Can I configure different migration_downtime values for different VMs?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.2 and 3.3.
