Issue

  • On boot, the console produces the following messages (as well as dmesg and /var/log/messages):
piix4_smbus 0000:00:07.3: SMBus Host Controller not enabled!

or

piix4_smbus 0000:00:07.3: Host SMBus controller not enabled!
  • System fails to boot with the above message as well

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux hosted on a VMware Hypervisor
