Using Reverse proxy: fails to connect to server

Issue

  • when trying to use reverse proxy it fails to connect to the server or runs slow. we get the following message in the error_log:
[error] (110)Connection timed out: proxy: HTTP: attempt to connect to 10.0.0.23:8008 (backend.example.org) failed
[error] ap_proxy_connect_backend disabling worker for (backend.example.org)
[error] proxy: HTTP: disabled connection for (backend.example.org)
