`lsof` is very slow on RHEL 7 when a multi threaded process has many open files

Issue

When invoking lsof all open files of a thread are listed and this causes long delays. How to disable to iteration through all threads?
lsof shows all open files of a multi-threaded application, could this be limited to the main-thread?
