Getting javax.faces.application.ApplicationFactory error when deploying WAR to JBoss EAP 6.x

Issue

  • When deploying a WAR file to JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 6.0.1 the following error was shown and the application failed to deploy:
13:37:40,962 SEVERE [javax.faces] (MSC service thread 1-4) Application was not properly initialized at startup, could not find Factory: javax.faces.application.ApplicationFactory. Attempting to find backup.
13:37:40,962 ERROR [org.apache.catalina.core.ContainerBase.[jboss.web].[default-host].[/INTLWebApps]] (MSC service thread 1-4) Exception sending context initialized event to listener instance of class org.apache.myfaces.webapp.StartupServletContextListener: java.lang.IllegalStateException: Could not find backup for factory javax.faces.application.ApplicationFactory.
