When I install a 32 bit system on 64 bit hardware, why do I see the message "PCI: Unable to handle 64-bit address space"?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • When installing 32 bit versions of Red Hat Enteprise Linux 4 on hardware that is physically capable of 64 bit, it produces the error "PCI: Unable to handle 64-bit address space". This does not interrupt installation.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, 32 bit
  • 64 bit compatible CPU/hardware
