Issue

  • Observed following message on the system:
kernel: mpt2sas 0000:0x:00.0: invalid short VPD tag 00 at offset 1
kernel: [ 2903.035289] ixgbe 000x:03:00.0: invalid short VPD tag 06 at offset 4
kernel: [ 2903.036988] ixgbe 000x:01:00.0: invalid short VPD tag 06 at offset 4
igb 0000:0x:00.0: invalid short VPD tag 05 at offset 6
  • Does this message indicate any issue with the LSI MPT controller / NIC ?

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
  • kernel-3.10.0-514.el7 or later
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.9
  • kernel-2.6.32-696.el6 or later
  • LSI Logic / Symbios Logic SAS2308 PCI-Express Fusion-MPT SAS-2 Controller
