Jobs sent to IPP printers that don't support IPP/1.1 may fail

Issue

  • CUPS web interface printer status pages show "Paused - "/usr/lib/cups/backend/ipp failed"" for print jobs.
  • The CUPS Error Log (/var/log/cups/error_log) contains the following messages:

    I [29/Mar/2017:21:48:58 -0500] [Job 233] Printer does not support IPP/1.1, trying IPP/1.0...
    I [29/Mar/2017:21:48:59 -0500] [Job 233] Backend returned status 1 (failed)
    I [29/Mar/2017:21:48:59 -0500] [Job 233] Printer stopped due to backend errors; please consult the error_log file for details.

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6
  • Common Unix Printing System (CUPS) 1.4.2
  • Printing to a printer via IPP (Internet Printing Protocol)
