Can fence_vmware_soap fence VMware guests without vCenter in a RHEL 5, 6, or 7 High Availability or Resilient Storage cluster?

Issue

  • Can fence_vmware_soap fence VMware guests in an environment without vCenter?
  • We know that fence_vmware_soap can be given the vCenter hostname or IP to fence VMs, but if we don't use vCenter can I pass the hostname or IP of the ESXi server directly?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) RHEL 5, 6, or 7 with the High Availability or Resilient Storage Add On
  • VMware ESXi without vCenter
  • fence_vmware_soap
