Multiple cron daemons running

Issue

  • A system was found to have multiple crond processes running at once. We only expect 1 crond process to be permanently running on the system. What's going on?
    Example output:

    [root@localhost]$ ps -ef | grep crond
root       556 10463  0 Dec18 ?        00:00:00 crond
root      1447 10463  0 Dec18 ?        00:00:00 crond
root      1561 10463  0 Dec18 ?        00:00:00 crond
root      2348 10463  0 Dec18 ?        00:00:00 crond
root      2363 10463  0 Dec18 ?        00:00:00 crond
