Issue

  • On boot, the console shows the following error:
piix4_smbus 0000:00:01.2: SMBus base address uninitialized - upgrade BIOS or use force_addr=0xaddr
  • The above can also be seen in boot messages within /var/log/messages and dmesg output.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, 6, and 7
