Why do I get: KDC has no support for encryption type while getting initial credentials error when trying to kinit?

Issue

  • When trying to kinit with a user, I get the unexpected error:

    # kinit -V user
Password for user@DOMAIN.ORG: 
kinit(v5): KDC has no support for encryption type while getting initial credentials

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • krb5 1.7 or later
