Recieving "SSLHandshakeException: SSLv2Hello is disabled" error message in EAP

Issue

  • disabling SSLv2Hello on clients running Java 1.6
  • after setting the enabled protocols on EAP (<ssl protocol="TLSv1">), Java 1.6 clients connecting with SSLv2 ClientHello are getting a SSLHandshakeException (Received fatal alert: handshake_failure) when connecting
  • javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: SSLv2Hello is disabled

Environment

  • Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (EAP)
    • SSL protocols have been customized but does not include SSLv2Hello
  • SSL client running on Oracle Java 1.6 runtime
