Message: "Kernel is not compiled with IPv6 support", while trying to configure IPv6

Issue

  • Restarting the network service after enabling ipv6 gives the following error:
# service network restart
CRITICAL : [ipv6_test] Kernel is not compiled with IPv6 support
CRITICAL : [ipv6_test] Kernel is not compiled with IPv6 support
CRITICAL : [ipv6_test] Kernel is not compiled with IPv6 support
  • After a reboot, the following logs appear in /var/log/messages:
kernel: cnic: Unknown symbol __ipv6_addr_type
kernel: ib_addr: Unknown symbol ipv6_get_saddr
kernel: ib_addr: Unknown symbol ipv6_chk_addr
