CVE-2026-97404
Description
A flaw was found in OpenStack Zaqar. An unauthenticated remote attacker who knows a target project's identifier can bypass authentication by sending an HTTP request containing an empty URL-Signature header to the Web Server Gateway Interface (WSGI) transport. Successful exploitation allows the attacker to read, create, or delete message queues, messages, and subscriptions, as well as perform unauthorized administrative operations.
Statement
Red Hat has determined that CVE-2026-97404 affects Red Hat OpenStack Platform 13 and 16.2 Zaqar deployments that use the WSGI transport with authentication enabled. The affected service runs on the undercloud management plane and is not tenant-facing. Red Hat OpenStack Platform deployments using the websocket transport are not affected.
Mitigation
Apply the updated Red Hat OpenStack Platform packages when available. Until the update is installed, restrict network access to the Zaqar WSGI endpoint to trusted management-plane clients. Do not disable authentication as a workaround.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
