CVE-2026-96748

Description

A flaw was found in pymongo. The driver improperly decodes percent-encoded characters in connection strings before separating host entries on delimiters. If an application incorporates untrusted hostnames into its connection strings, a remote attacker can inject arbitrary servers into the database client configuration. As a result, the application may connect to an attacker-controlled server, leading to data tampering and information disclosure.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as Moderate impact because successful exploitation depends on an atypical application design that incorporates unvalidated user-supplied parameters into database connection strings. In supported Red Hat offerings, including Red Hat OpenShift AI and Red Hat OpenStack Platform, database endpoints are statically defined in administrative settings rather than constructed from external input. Consequently, typical deployments are not exposed to unauthorized endpoint injection or query redirection under default conditions.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
