CVE-2026-92959

Description

A flaw was found in vm2, a JavaScript sandbox. This vulnerability allows a sandboxed script to bypass security restrictions designed to prevent asynchronous code execution. An attacker can exploit this by using specific Promise methods to assimilate malicious 'thenables,' enabling code to run outside of the intended execution timeout. This can lead to unauthorized resource usage and continued execution after the host system expects the sandbox to be terminated.

Statement

This is an Important vulnerability. The vm2 sandbox, used in Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform and Red Hat Developer Hub, fails to properly enforce asynchronous code execution restrictions. This allows a sandboxed script to execute code outside of its configured timeout, potentially leading to prolonged or unintended execution within the host environment.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
