CVE-2026-92938

Description

A flaw was found in vm2. Untrusted code running within the sandbox environment can bypass isolation restrictions when the host SQLite module is accessible. By crafting module import requests and loading native database extensions, an attacker can escape the sandbox and achieve arbitrary code execution with the privileges of the host process.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as Important severity because an attacker capable of submitting untrusted scripts to an environment using the vm2 sandbox can escape isolation and execute arbitrary code in the context of the underlying host process. Red Hat products such as Red Hat Developer Hub and Ansible Automation Platform bundle this library within specific backend services to execute isolated routines. While escaping the sandbox compromises host process integrity and confidentiality, exploitation requires pre-existing privileges to provide or load sandboxed code alongside specific configuration allowances for the builtin SQLite module.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options do not meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base, or stability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
