CVE-2026-80568

Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's synaptics-rmi4 input driver. Changing the diagnostic report type while a video stream (V4L2) is active can alter the expected report size. Since V4L2 buffers are allocated based on the initial size at stream start, a larger subsequent report could lead to a heap buffer overflow. This vulnerability could allow a local attacker to potentially cause a denial of service or achieve arbitrary code execution.

If the incorrect calculation is used in the context of memory allocation, then the software may create a buffer that is smaller or larger than expected. If the allocated buffer is smaller than expected, this could lead to an out-of-bounds read or write (CWE-119), possibly causing a crash, allowing arbitrary code execution, or exposing sensitive data.
