CVE-2026-79602
Description
A flaw was found in Xen. A malicious guest operating system, when configured with a PCI device that has a Base Address Register (BAR) mapped to the I/O port space, can trigger an internal error within the Xen hypervisor. This vulnerability could lead to a denial of service, causing the host system to become unresponsive.
Statement
Red Hat Product Security has determined that this vulnerability does not affect any currently supported Red Hat product. This assessment may evolve based on further analysis and discovery. For more information about this vulnerability and the products it affects, please see the linked references.
Mitigation
To mitigate this issue, avoid assigning PCI devices to untrusted guests. If PCI device passthrough is required, ensure that only trusted virtual machines are granted this capability. This operational control reduces the attack surface by limiting the ability of potentially malicious guests to exploit the vulnerability.
Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart
An attacker that can trigger an assert statement can still lead to a denial of service if the relevant code can be triggered by an attacker, and if the scope of the assert() extends beyond the attacker's own session.
