CVE-2026-71980
Description
A flaw was found in Belledonne Communications bcg729. This out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the decodeSIDframe() function allows unauthenticated network-adjacent attackers to trigger a heap read beyond buffer boundaries. This occurs by sending a zero-length comfort-noise Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP) payload, which causes an integer underflow. The consequence can be the termination of the media process, leading to a Denial of Service (DoS), or the silent consumption of adjacent heap memory.

Mitigation
To mitigate this issue, restrict network access to services or applications that process RTP streams using the bcg729 library. Configure firewalls to limit incoming RTP traffic to trusted sources only. This reduces the attack surface by preventing unauthenticated network-adjacent attackers from sending malicious comfort-noise RTP payloads.
