CVE-2026-119376

Description

A flaw was found in SQLite. An attacker can cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by supplying specially crafted SQL queries or an untrusted database view containing deeply chained COLLATE operators. This flaw bypasses expression depth limitations, triggering unbounded recursion and stack exhaustion that crashes the application process.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as having a Moderate impact for Red Hat environments because exploitation typically requires user interaction or an application accepting arbitrary, unvalidated SQL statements from untrusted sources, resulting solely in a denial of service. In standard Red Hat Enterprise Linux installations, SQLite functions primarily as an embedded storage backend where applications execute internally controlled queries rather than arbitrary external syntax. Consequently, risk is confined to scenarios where host services process hostile database files or unauthenticated external input containing thousands of collation clauses, crashing only the invoking process.

Mitigation

Upgrade to sqlite >= 3.54.0; avoid processing untrusted SQL/database views.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.

Availability

Technical Impact: DoS: Resource Consumption (CPU); DoS: Resource Consumption (Memory); DoS: Resource Consumption (Other)

When allocating resources without limits, an attacker could prevent other systems, applications, or processes from accessing the same type of resource. It can be easy for an attacker to consume many resources by rapidly making many requests or causing larger resources to be used than is needed.
