CVE-2026-108398
Description
A flaw was found in .NET Framework. An untrusted search path vulnerability allows an authenticated local attacker to bypass security features. By placing a malicious file in a search directory used by the application, an attacker can trick the system into loading unauthorized resources, potentially gaining elevated access.
Statement
An untrusted search path vulnerability was found in Microsoft .NET Framework. An authenticated local attacker could exploit this flaw by placing a specially crafted binary or dependency into an application search path. When an application loads the untrusted component, the attacker bypasses local security enforcement (such as application control policies), enabling arbitrary code execution and potential privilege escalation within the local operating system context.
Mitigation
Enforce strict file system access controls and directory write permissions to prevent unprivileged users from writing files to application directories or search paths.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
