CVE-2025-38402
Description
From CVE.org
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: idpf: return 0 size for RSS key if not supported Returning -EOPNOTSUPP from function returning u32 is leading to cast and invalid size value as a result. -EOPNOTSUPP as a size probably will lead to allocation fail. Command: ethtool -x eth0 It is visible on all devices that don't have RSS caps set. Statement
A logic error in the Intel IDPF driver's ethtool implementation causes the return of -EOPNOTSUPP from a function returning u32. This results in invalid buffer size calculations and may lead to allocation failures or warnings when ethtool -x is executed on unsupported devices.
Although the bug may cause system instability or warnings, it is not directly exploitable and does not represent a high-severity security vulnerability.
Mitigation
Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options don't meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base or stability.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
