CVE-2024-50078

Description

From CVE.org

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Bluetooth: Call iso_exit() on module unload If iso_init() has been called, iso_exit() must be called on module unload. Without that, the struct proto that iso_init() registered with proto_register() becomes invalid, which could cause unpredictable problems later. In my case, with CONFIG_LIST_HARDENED and CONFIG_BUG_ON_DATA_CORRUPTION enabled, loading the module again usually triggers this BUG(): list_add corruption. next->prev should be prev (ffffffffb5355fd0), but was 0000000000000068. (next=ffffffffc0a010d0). ------------[ cut here ]------------ kernel BUG at lib/list_debug.c:29! Statement

The bug happens only when admin unloads and then loads again Bluetooth kernel module, so impact is limited.

Mitigation

To mitigate this issue, prevent module bluetooth from being loaded. Please see https://access.redhat.com/solutions/41278 for how to blacklist a kernel module to prevent it from loading automatically.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)

Integrity

Technical Impact: Modify Memory; Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands

Write operations could cause memory corruption. In some cases, an adversary can modify control data such as return addresses in order to execute unexpected code.

Availability

Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart

Attempting to access out-of-range, invalid, or unauthorized memory could cause the product to crash.

Other

Technical Impact: Unexpected State

Subsequent write operations can produce undefined or unexpected results.
