CVE-2024-47713

Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's mac80211 wireless subsystem. A local attacker with low privileges could trigger a condition where the system attempts to transmit data with interrupts disabled during the ieee80211_do_stop() function. This incorrect handling of network packet buffers (SKBs) can lead to system instability or a denial of service (DoS), making the system unresponsive.

Mitigation

If WiFi functionality is not required, the `mac80211` kernel module can be blacklisted to prevent it from loading. Create a file `/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-mac80211.conf` with the content `blacklist mac80211`. A system reboot is required for this change to take effect. Disabling this module will prevent all WiFi operations on the system.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
