CVE-2024-0565
Description
An out-of-bounds memory read flaw was found in receive_encrypted_standard in fs/smb/client/smb2ops.c in the SMB Client sub-component in the Linux Kernel. This issue occurs due to integer underflow on the memcpy length, leading to a denial of service.
Statement
This vulnerability considered being Moderate impact because of limitations for attack scenario.
Mitigation
To mitigate this issue, prevent module cifs from being loaded. Please see https://access.redhat.com/solutions/41278 for how to blacklist a kernel module to prevent it from loading automatically.

The Samba (CIFS) file system usually being mounted locally, and described vulnerability doesn't allow to crash the server (instead it allows for server to crash the client when client already mounted something from server). This is the reason why "AV:A" (Adjacent attack vector) chosen and UI:R (required for client to connect to server before). The attack type is "DoS (due to OOB read on the memcpy source buffer) and wild copy (due to integer underflow on the memcpy length)" and this is the reason why complexity of attack high (AC:H that is attack complexity high).
