CVE-2023-5764

Description

A template injection flaw was found in Ansible where a user's controller internal templating operations may remove the unsafe designation from template data. This issue could allow an attacker to use a specially crafted file to introduce templating injection when supplying templating data.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

Red Hat CVSS v3 Score Explanation

In Ansible to exploit this vulnerability an attacker would have to supply a specifically created template file, which in turn would exploit conditional evaluation in Ansible controller which ends up calling untrusted data, this would only result in damage to confidentiality and integrity but cannot be made to perform a denial of service of any kind hence availability has been marked as such.
