CVE-2023-54185
Description
The Btrfs filesystem contains BUG_ON() calls in add_new_free_space() that crash the kernel when memory allocation fails. This change replaces panic-inducing BUG_ON() with proper error handling.
Statement
The BUG_ON() calls are triggered by rare memory allocation failures. While the crash is a denial of service, exploiting it requires creating memory pressure during specific Btrfs operations. The fix converts these to recoverable errors.
