CVE-2023-30608

Description

A flaw was found in sqlparse. The SQL parser contains a regular expression vulnerable to a Regular Expression Denial of Service (ReDoS). The vulnerability may lead to a denial of service (DoS).

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

Red Hat CVSS v3 Score Explanation

We consider the Attack Vector (AV) is Local (L) as it is not enough to exploit the flaw over the network by having the IP address and/or port, but it is required to have a local account in order to inject the regular expression, this has been also set on the same way by upstream community who report the issue and it is patching the problem here.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)

Availability

Technical Impact: DoS: Resource Consumption (CPU)

Attackers can create crafted inputs that intentionally cause the regular expression to use excessive backtracking in a way that causes the CPU consumption to spike.
