CVE-2022-50870
Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's PowerPC RTAS subsystem. The rtas_os_term() function, called during kernel panic, performs device tree lookups that require locking. If a panic occurs while devtree_lock is already held, this can cause the panic handler to hang indefinitely, preventing proper system termination.
Statement
This issue only affects PowerPC systems and manifests exclusively during kernel panic when devtree_lock happens to be held. Since the system is already in a fatal error state when this occurs, the practical security impact is minimal—the flaw prevents clean panic handling rather than causing new failures.
