CVE-2022-50435

Description

A flaw was found in the ext4 filesystem implementation in the Linux kernel. When a file is created and written via direct I/O (DIO), the flag EXT4_STATE_MAY_INLINE_DATA is not cleared. Subsequently, if the inode is truncated and then written using buffered I/O, the filesystem may attempt to store inline data and normal blocks for the same inode. This inconsistent state may lead to a kernel crash (BUG) or panic.

Mitigation

Mitigation for this issue is either not available or the currently available options don't meet the Red Hat Product Security criteria comprising ease of use and deployment, applicability to widespread installation base or stability.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
