CVE-2022-49174

Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel’s EXT4 filesystem implementation (ext4_mb_mark_bb()), affecting configurations with the flex_bg feature (enabled by default) and fast_commit. When processing extents that span across block group boundaries, the function reads the block bitmap buffer only once and fails to update it for subsequent groups. This results in out-of-bounds memory access and a data abort, leading to kernel crashes when mounting or operating on affected filesystems—particularly observed on PowerPC platforms

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
