CVE-2022-49017
Description
From CVE.org
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: tipc: re-fetch skb cb after tipc_msg_validate As the call trace shows, the original skb was freed in tipc_msg_validate(), and dereferencing the old skb cb would cause an use-after-free crash. BUG: KASAN: use-after-free in tipc_crypto_rcv_complete+0x1835/0x2240 [tipc] Call Trace: <IRQ> tipc_crypto_rcv_complete+0x1835/0x2240 [tipc] tipc_crypto_rcv+0xd32/0x1ec0 [tipc] tipc_rcv+0x744/0x1150 [tipc] ... Freed by task 47078: tipc_msg_validate+0x7b/0x440 [tipc] tipc_crypto_rcv_complete+0x4b5/0x2240 [tipc] tipc_crypto_rcv+0xd32/0x1ec0 [tipc] tipc_rcv+0x744/0x1150 [tipc] This patch fixes it by re-fetching the skb cb from the new allocated skb after calling tipc_msg_validate().
Statement
This issue is considered to be a moderate impact flaw, as the reproducer for this issue is not available to cause an Intigrity (I:L) threat. The bug could happen only if TIPC encryption being used. Being used as Inter-process Communication (IPC) service for cluster-wide operation. Actual only for latest versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Integrity
Technical Impact: Modify Memory
The use of previously freed memory may corrupt valid data, if the memory area in question has been allocated and used properly elsewhere.
Availability
Technical Impact: DoS: Crash, Exit, or Restart
If chunk consolidation occurs after the use of previously freed data, the process may crash when invalid data is used as chunk information.
Confidentiality
Technical Impact: Read Memory
Read operations on freed memory can sometimes leak sensitive information instead of causing a crash
Integrity,Confidentiality,Availability
Technical Impact: Execute Unauthorized Code or Commands
If malicious data is entered before chunk consolidation can take place, it may be possible to take advantage of a write-what-where primitive to execute arbitrary code. If the newly allocated data happens to hold a class, in C++ for example, various function pointers may be scattered within the heap data. If one of these function pointers is overwritten with an address to valid shellcode, execution of arbitrary code can be achieved.
