CVE-2022-40897
Description
A flaw was found in Python Setuptools due to a regular expression Denial of Service (ReDoS) present in package_index.py. This issue could allow a remote attacker to cause a denial of service via HTML in a crafted package or custom PackageIndex page.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

Red Hat CVSS v3 Score Explanation
Attack Complexity (AC) is marked as High because a successful attack depends on conditions beyond the attacker's control and the attacker must prepare the target environment to improve exploit reliability and a specialized Regular Expression based on the analysis of the target environment/system.
Understanding the Weakness (CWE)
Other
Technical Impact: Unexpected State; Varies by Context
When the regular expression is not correctly specified, data might have a different format or type than the rest of the program expects, producing resultant weaknesses or errors.
Access Control
Technical Impact: Bypass Protection Mechanism
In PHP, regular expression checks can sometimes be bypassed with a null byte, leading to any number of weaknesses.
