CVE-2021-32779

Description

An authorization bypass vulnerability was found in envoyproxy/envoy. When a URI path-based authorization policy is specified, envoy incorrectly evaluates the HTTP request which contains a URI #fragment. This flaw allows an attacker to bypass the authorization policy and access downstream services. The highest threat from this vulnerability is to confidentiality, integrity, as well as system availability.

S:U -> S:C The vulnerable component is the envoy proxy, where the impacted component is the downstream service that the proxy is protecting, hence the authorization bypass, and the proposing of the change to Scope (S) metric from Unchanged to Changed.

CIA:H -> CIA:L A potential attacker does not necessarily have complete control over what information/access they may obtain. Additionally, it is unlikely that this URI authorization policy alone is controlling access to the downstream component.
