CVE-2026-98761

Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's USB Type-C Port Manager (TCPM). This issue may result in a denial of service (DoS) or unintended power delivery on the affected port. When a USB Type-C cable is disconnected while signaling a Fast Role Swap (FRS), the controller autonomously begins sourcing bus voltage (VBUS) power, but the role-swap sequence fails because the connection is broken. Due to improper state handling, the driver fails to trigger error recovery or reset the port, leaving power delivery active on the disconnected interface.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
