CVE-2026-98715

Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) AMD Secure Virtual Machine (SVM) implementation. This flaw can lead to information disclosure or memory corruption due to dropped Translation Lookaside Buffer (TLB) flushes. When a virtual machine execution (VMRUN) fails, KVM resets the TLB control state without verifying whether the processor completed the flush request. A local guest user could exploit this flaw during address space reuse to retain stale memory mappings, potentially accessing or corrupting unauthorized memory.

Statement

This vulnerability is rated as an Important severity impact because a malicious guest could break hypervisor isolation boundaries, leading to unauthorized host or cross-guest data exposure and memory tampering. The flaw exclusively affects Red Hat Enterprise Linux and OpenShift virtualization hosts operating on AMD hardware with AMD Secure Virtual Machine (SVM) enabled. Intel-based deployments remain unaffected due to their reliance on the VMX architecture, and systems that do not run virtualized workloads are not exposed.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
