CVE-2026-98572

Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's extended Berkeley Packet Filter (eBPF) Just-In-Time (JIT) compiler on 32-bit MIPS systems. An instruction generation error during 64-bit jump comparisons causes negative numeric constants to be incorrectly evaluated against a hardware register instead of the intended values. A local user capable of loading BPF programs can exploit this issue to produce invalid comparison results, potentially bypassing security filters or causing unexpected program execution paths.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.

Technical Impact: Varies by Context

This can lead to incorrect results and resultant weaknesses. For example, the code might inadvertently compare references to objects, instead of the relevant contents of those objects, causing two "equal" objects to be considered unequal.
