CVE-2026-98539

Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's NTFS3 file system driver. A race condition during directory creation allows concurrent path lookup or mount operations to access and lock an inode before its initialization finishes. This improper synchronization resets and corrupts the directory's internal lock state, causing subsequent operations on the directory to hang indefinitely. A local user could exploit this flaw to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by triggering concurrent file operations on an NTFS3 file system.

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
