CVE-2026-98484
Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's netfilter subsystem. A local user with network administration privileges can exploit this issue to cause a security bypass or Denial of Service (DoS). Due to improper handling of expired catchall set elements during insertion and deletion operations, stale entries are not properly ignored before background cleanup runs. This flaw can block the addition of new firewall rules or deactivate valid rules, causing network traffic to bypass intended filtering policies.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.

Technical Impact: Varies by Context
This can lead to incorrect results and resultant weaknesses. For example, the code might inadvertently compare references to objects, instead of the relevant contents of those objects, causing two "equal" objects to be considered unequal.
