CVE-2026-98362
Description
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's SCPI (System Control and Power Interface) clock driver. When recalculating clock rates, the driver fails to validate the upper bound of Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling (DVFS) indices returned by system firmware. This issue allows an out-of-range index to trigger an out-of-bounds memory read, potentially causing a Denial of Service (DoS) through a kernel crash or system instability from corrupted clock frequency values.
Statement
This vulnerability is rated as having a Low impact because triggering the out-of-bounds read relies on malformed or out-of-range values supplied directly by platform firmware, restricting applicability to specific ARM hardware architectures. In typical enterprise deployments, system firmware operates within a trusted boundary, and unprivileged users cannot directly manipulate DVFS index values or invoke this path remotely. Consequently, the real-world attack surface is extremely narrow, posing minimal risk beyond localized denial of service or frequency misconfiguration on platforms running faulty firmware.
Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details
Info alert:Important note
CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).
The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
