CVE-2026-98216

Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's InfiniBand hfi1 driver. Incorrect memory offset calculations and Direct Memory Access (DMA) buffer handling during credit-return memory mapping can lead to corrupted page tables or communication stalls. A local user with access to the hfi1 device could exploit this vulnerability to crash the operating system, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.

Understanding the Weakness (CWE)

Confidentiality,Integrity

Technical Impact: Read Memory; Modify Memory

Incorrect pointer scaling will often result in buffer overflow conditions. Confidentiality can be compromised if the weakness is in the context of a buffer over-read or under-read.
