CVE-2026-97591

Description

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's s390 crypto subsystem. When processing Protected Key HMAC (PHMAC) operations, the driver improperly treats busy queue status codes from the cryptographic engine as failure conditions. A local user could exploit this flaw by submitting cryptographic requests during high load, prompting the driver to prematurely clear memory structures while requests are still in progress. This improper cleanup can lead to memory corruption or a system crash, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).

Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) Score Details

Info alert:Important note

CVSS scores for open source components depend on vendor-specific factors (e.g. version or build chain). Therefore, Red Hat's score and impact rating can be different from NVD and other vendors. Red Hat remains the authoritative CVE Naming Authority (CNA) source for its products and services (see Red Hat classifications).

The following CVSS metrics and score provided are preliminary and subject to review.
